The most exciting two minutes in sport take place this weekend at Moonee Valley in the Cox Plate. One of the greatest weight-for-age classics in the world takes centre stage.

A tricky card for punters this weekend may have a few looking for guidance, so we are here to help.

Check out our tips for Cox Plate day.

Race 1

1- IDRIS- Cost $120,000 at the sales and has had two decent jumpouts in the lead up to this. Hard to pick when they are so untried but if I had to be with one it would be Idris.

Race 2

6- RANTING- Resumes here and tends to go well fresh despite not having won 1st up. Racing pattern may be an issue with on-pace runners perhaps suited after the Friday night racing.

Race 3

1- ROBIDIRA- Had no luck last start and was lame before that so has had excuses in recent times. Will figure much better here if there is any luck on her side.

Race 4

4- GENERATION- Had to do it tough last start here and stuck on well despite that. Suspect that won't happen this time and he will get an easier run in transit. Has the ability to lead and dictate here.

Race 5

3- FORTUNATE KISS- Good run in Group one last start with minimal luck when needed. That form line is very strong. Was on the wrong part of the track before that and battled well. Ready for this.

Race 6

5- ELEPHANT- Willing to forgive the last run when he was forced to cover plenty of ground in the run. Proven at the Valley which is huge and was all class at Sandown. Is deep into prep but should be far too good for this field.

Race 7

1- FORGOT YOU- Was very good in fast Caulfield Guineas run. Ran serious time in final 200m. Gets it a lot easier here and looks a class above these. Unbeaten at Moonee Valley too which is a massive plus.

Race 8

10- PONDUS- Runs well second up and looks to map perfectly here behind Floating Artist. Had every right to drop off last start and he stuck on terrifically there. Will be fitter for that run and ready to peak here.

Race 9

9- ANAMOE- Very tricky race but can't find a fault in the preparation of this star. Was huge in a very fast Caulfield Guineas at his first go at the mile. Suggests 2000m may be no issue and carries next to no weight.

Race 10

6- STARELLE- Maps t get a nice run in transit and can use that run to swoop them late. Especially if there is ay wear and tear on the track at the end of the day. Rady to win one now.
