Verry Elleegant is set to return to the races this weekend in Sydney in the Group 2 Apollo Stakes.
The Chris Waller-trained mare had a brilliant spring, which saw her win the Turnbull Stakes and Caulfield Cup.
Verry Elleegant returns over the 1400m this preparation, a distance in which she has tasted Group 1 success upon resumption previously.
We last saw her in the 2020 Melbourne Cup where she ran a very respectable 7th coming home with a mighty run from the back of the field.
Punters have been very keen to back the mare who opened at $6 before being crunched into as low as $4.50 almost immediately.
The reason for the push may be the forecast for Saturday, with showers expected on the day.
There is no doubting that the tough mare enjoys getting her toe into the deck although she is very capable of winning on a good surface.
Other notable nominees which punters have liked include Funstar ($3.50), Mugatoo ($5).
Godolphin trained runner Colette will also resume along with Fifty Stars who was scratched from last Saturday's C.F Orr Stakes at Caulfield.
Waller has also nominated Kolding.
